美國媽祖基金會是經美國紐約州政府批準成立的,旨在宣傳中國媽祖文化的公益組織。媽祖基金會下設媽祖文化交流中心,負責對外宣傳媽祖文化。
美國媽祖基金會的成立源起于2014年,2014年2月美國閩商商會、美國莆仙同鄉會兩會會長朱榮斌博士率團回國訪問,期間受到莆田市委市政府的熱情接待,雙方在會晤中特別提到了媽祖文化,莆田市委市政府特別希望能將媽祖文化傳播到大洋彼岸的美國,讓一方華商同胞能夠得到媽祖的保佑,媽祖文化能在美國生根發芽、开花结果。之后,在黃升发先生、朱榮斌先生、郭国富先生、郑开国先生、叶陈芳先生、黃明萍女士六位華僑的發起下,經多方溝通和協商,在眾多國內企業家、熱心人士及美國華僑的支持下,美國媽祖基金會最終于2014年5月12日獲得美國政府批準成立。
美國媽祖基金會成立過程中,受到眾多愛心人士的支持和捐助。莆田熱心商人叶陈芳先生捐款精鑄媽祖金身,美國熱心商人刘真珍女士捐款鑄造觀音金身,中国环球集团林爱国先生捐款鑄造千里眼、順風耳金身,莆田熱心人士楊云鵬先生對媽祖基金會的成立提供了文化指導、捐贈了許多珍貴書籍及資料,并揮墨題寫楹聯,還有一些要求匿名的熱心人士主動提供捐助善款。這些愛心人士的支持和捐助促成了媽祖基金會的順利成立。
媽祖文化弘扬立德、行善、大愛的中华傳統美德,至今已有1055年歷史,媽祖文化已于2009年9月30日被聯合國教科文組織列為人類非物質文化遺產(信俗類)。美國媽祖基金會的成立必將進一步推動這一文化遺產的傳承与發展,使媽祖文化在美國大地上扎根,增进中美两国人民的友好交往。妈祖文化也是联系海峡两岸人民的精神枢纽,对祖国的和平统一大业起到积极的推動作用。
WHO ARE WE?
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to spread the popularity of the Mazu culture throughout the whole world. We are faithful believers of the Mazu religion and determined to allow people in the world to learn more of the Mazu faith.
The establishment of the American Mazu Foundation will seek to promote the healthy development of the cultural heritage, as well as spread and prosper its influence. Therefore, it will enhance better understanding and friendship between the United States and China.
WHO IS MAZU?
Mazu is the Chinese patron goddess who was dedicated to protect those out on the seas including sailors and fisherman. The worship of Mazu became in the Song dynasty and from then on she became a household name in many regions, especially in Zhejian, Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan, Taiwan, and many countries in Southeast Asia close to the sea. She was born on 960 in Putian, Fujian. She would be remembered as protector of the seas and hailed a national faith.
Mazu has been widely worshiped as a goddess in China for over 1,000 years. She was known for her remarkable intelligence and abilities to predict changes in the weather for the safety of sailors, fishermen, and seafarers. The belief of the Mazu culture promotes integrity, dignity, morality, charity, empathy, and love of Traditional Chinese virtues. On September 30, 2009, the belief of Mazu was accepted as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
